THEN AND NOW
THIS WAS LISBON’S “FIRST LIBRARY”
This building dates back to at least 1850, and by 1860 was the shop of Stark K. Fisk, master watch maker and jeweler and housed the first books of the library of the Lisbon Village Library Association, founded in 1864. In 1870 it was the office of Dietrich & Smith, Merchant Tailor, office for Dr. O. H. Boynton, and a chemist and assayer’s office for ore brought out of the local mines, especially gold. The 2-1/2 story gable front Greek Revival building was altered in the 1900s. Over the years it has housed stores, businesses and apartments. The most recent renovation of the property took place in 2021, after it was damaged by a fire that destroyed the abutting property in September of 2017. It is located at 50 South Main Street.
