MAY 2026 - PICTURES AND STORIES FROM OUR ARCHIVES
School Street intersection with Grafton Street (at left) and West Street (at right) is pictured c. 1896, when our town streets were lined with shade trees. The little girl is Emily Wells (1884-1957) daughter of Curtis and Emma Wells, who lived on the lot where Emily is standing. That lot is now empty, but there was a large home there and in later years it was used as an apartment house. Curtis Wells was a local merchant. Emma graduated from Lisbon High School in 1902 and after graduating from Plymouth Normal School, she taught school. The white house at right is today the home of Donna Knighton.
